Solnit

This tear was collected from a very young child, in one of those moments when upset can be intense and short-lived at the same time. Held safely in the arms of her mothers, she cried with all the seriousness of childhood — only for the moment to begin changing almost immediately.

As the tears were collected, curiosity took over and the crying turned into laughter. What began in emotion ended in play, making the experience unexpectedly tender: a small reminder of how quickly feeling can move, and how closely comfort, tears and joy can exist together.
